FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

+ What is a CPA? And how is working with a CPA beneficial?

CPA stands for Chartered Professional Accountant. It is a professional designation used for accountants. In order to become a "CPA" you must pass a comprehensive exam, meet experience and degree requirements and pass and adhere to a code of ethics.

Working with a CPA ensures that you are working with someone who has a high level of knowledge and experience. Moreover, CPAs are bound by a code of ethics - which ensures your confidentiality and that they are acting with integrity and due care. Some other info can be found here.

+ Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes, it’s the best way to determine if we are a good fit. Book a consult here.

+ Do you provide bookkeeping services?

No, but I can teach you how to do this yourself in my Bookkeeping Bootcamp program! Don’t want to do it yourself? I can likely refer you to someone. Feel free to reach out either way :)

+ How do you determine your fee to prepare my return(s)? Is it a fixed fee or an hourly rate?

I will ask a few questions on our initial consult call to determine pricing based on the complexity of your situation and the amount of work to be done. Most returns can be arranged at a set price, however sometimes there are items that are difficult to assess and will be billed based on a time and billable hours. This will be outlined prior to beginning any work.

+ When can I expect to receive my completed tax returns back from you?

I process returns on a “First In First Out” basis. Due to the complexity of returns, some tax returns can be completed in a day or two and others could take a week or more. If you have a deadline or time frame in mind, let me know and we will work to get your return completed on your time schedule.

+ What happens if I get a notification about my return from the CRA?

It is very common to receive notifications in the mail or online from the CRA requesting information or notifying you of changes. It is important to address the notices in a timely manner. If you receive a notification and are unsure of what to do next, please contact me along with a copy of your notice. I can provide you with guidance and help you decide if you would like to address the notice yourself or have me address the notice. Any time spent addressing notifications on your behalf will be billed at an hourly rate.

+ How long have you been in business?

I have been working in accounting and finance for over 8 years and started Monte CPA in April 2017.
